Jealous of the Birds – Plastic Skeletons

I don’t know if it’s my own personal Irish heritage, or what it is that has me vibin’ so much recently with the new music bubbling up out of Ireland! Once again Black Cat Tapes returns to Ireland for some musically dank, female-fronted indie pop GOLD, this time from Portadown in County Armagh, Northern Ireland!

As I’m sure anyone who has been following the music I’m putting out there on Black Cat Tapes knows, I don’t like to spend too many words “convincing” anyone to listen. Dott – Like A Girl

Galway, Ireland’s Dott just put out this awesome new music video for their first single, ‘Like A Girl’, taken from their upcoming Heart Swell LP, out June 8th on Graveface Records. The song is a perfect fit here at Black Cat Tapes with it’s empowering, and uplifting lyrics that stand up for and embrace Woman’s rights not just in Ireland, but around the world! This is the kind of positive and much needed message we want to broadcast loud from the rooftops!! It also doesn’t hurt that the song has an awesome chilled out punk rock vibe to boot!

With only a few short weeks until the May 25 referendum for change in laws on women’s reproductive rights in Ireland, Dott have shared a new video showcasing many of the women who have been fighting for the cause.

“Like a Girl” features guitar work from Speedy Ortiz’s Sadie Dupuis. Dott opened for Sad13 last year and the two kept in touch afterward. When asked about the collaboration, Dott’s Anna McCarthy commented, “after listening to her album about consent, support and feminism, it made perfect sense for Sadie to appear on this track.”
